Xogħlijiet li qegħdin isiru, għotja ta' Kotba u Flus ghal-Librerija Reġjonali fil-Birgu

Xogħlijiet li qegħdin isiru,

għotja ta’ Kotba u Flus għal-Librerija Reġjonali fil-Birgu

Matul dawn l-aħħar disa’ xhur, fil-Librerija Reġjonali li tinsab f’waħda mill-aktar binjiet Storiċi li jinsabu fil-Belt Marittima u Storika tal-Birgu, dik tal-“Berġa tal-Ingilterra”, saru bosta xogħlijiet ta’ manutenzjoni, ngħataw aktar minn tliet mija u ħamsin ktieb f’donazzjonijiet u €582 mis-Segretarju Parlamentari fl-Uffiċju tal-Prim Ministru, Dr Chris Said, ghas-sena 2010 taħt l-Iskema “Għajnuna lill-Kunsilli Lokali li għandhom taħt ir-responsabbilta tagħhom Libreriji Lokali" maħruġa fil-Memo 16/2010 sabiex jingħataw aktar kotba bil-Malti.

Wara sejħa għall-għajnuna finanzjarja

lill-ħwienet kollha tal-Birgu sabiex issir

antiporta fil-bieb tal-librerija, kienu bosta

ħwienet li taw il-kontribuzzjoni tagħhom,

fosthom Olde City Pub, Euro Clean Ltd,

Mifsud Garage, Amabile Galea & Sons,

Cafe du Brazil, dCentre, Main Square u

Del Borgo, li bejniethom ħarġu s-somma

ta’  €950 sabiex setgħet issir din l-antiporta.

Saret manutenzjoni fil-bjut kollha ta’ din il-binja

kif ukoll saru bosta xogħlijiet oħra fejn ġew

irranġati bosta twieqi u bibien li wara ngħataw

iż-żebgħa.

Tkompla l-puġġaman tat-taraġ tal-parti ta’ fuq li jagħti għal-librerija. Saru bosta tiswijiet fis-sistema tad-dawl fejn ġew mibdula numru sostanzjali ta’ rifletturi. Ftit tal-jiem ilu saru erba' units ta’ xkaffar ġodda bħal dawk oriġinali, fejn issa qiegħed isir ix-xogħol tal-lostru fuqhom mill-ħaddiema tal-ETC.

Ftit tal-ġimgħat ilu, l-Kunsill ġie nfurmat li ser jinbeda l-proċess sabiex is-sistema tas-self ta’ kotba minn din il-Librerija Reġjonali jibda jsir bis-sistema

kompjuterizzata, fejn minn barra li l-librar ikun jaf eżatt dawk il-kotbali qegħdin joħorġu u jinqraw l-aktar, ħadd ieħor ikun jaf preċiżament b’dawk il-kotba  li jista’ jsib f’din il-librerija.

Bl-approvazzjoni tal-Librar ewlieni mil-Librerija Ċentrali, nbeda l-proċess sabiex jiġu mwarrba minn fuq l-ixkafef dawk il-kotba li jinsabu ddeterjorati jew għal xi raġuni jew oħra mhux qegħdin jintużaw. Dan il-proċess, minn barra li ser jagħti aktar spazju għal kotba ġodda, li diġa jinsabu lesti biex jokkupaw dan il-vojt, ser jgħin biex il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu jkompli jinvesti bis-sħiħ f’din il-Librerija Reġjonali li bħalma jaf kulħadd hija waħda mill-aktar Libreriji tajbin u organizzati li jinsabu fil-Gżejjer Maltin.

Matul dawn l-aħħar ġimgħat il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu rnexxielu jilħaq ftehim mal-Ministru tas-Saħħa, l-Anzjani u l-Kura fil-Komunita, fejn il-Berġa tal-Gvern, dik li illum tinsab fi Triq it-Torri ta’ San Ġwann, ftit tal-ġimgħat oħra ser tiġi trasferita għal parti t’isfel (livell terran) tal-Berġa tal-Ingilterra, li din il-Berġa fiha hemm diġa l-Librerija Reġjonali.

Bis-saħħa ta’ dan il-ftehim min-naħa tad-Dipartiment tal-Kura Primarja fi ħdan il-Ministeru tas-Saħħa, l-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu rnexxielu wkoll li terġa' ssir l-antiporta li oriġinarjament kien hemm li tiddividi l-entratura prinċipali mill-bitħa nterna ta’ din il-Binja Storika.

Illum nistgħu ngħidu li l-Berġa tal-Ingilterra qed tintuża għal żewġ skopijiet ewlenin, dak tas-settur edukattiv u dak tas-saħħa, li żgur li f'dawn iż-żewġ setturi r-residenti ta’ din il-lokalita ser ikollhom aktar faċilitajiet komdi għall-bżonnijiet tagħhom.

 Works being carried out,
and money grants at the Regional Library of Birgu

Over the past nine months in the Regional Library of Birgu, which is found in one of the main historic buildings found in the Maritime and Historical City of Birgu, that of the "Auberge D’Angleterre", various maintenance works have been going on. During the year 2010, the Birgu Local Council was given €582 from the Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr Chris Said, to purchase books under the Scheme "Funds for Local Councils who under their responsibility have a LocalLibrary", as per Memo 16/2010.

Following a call for financial assistance to all

outlets in Birgu for an inner glazed door at

the Library the following outlets contributed:

Old City Pub, Euro Clean, Mifsud Garage,

Amabile Galea & Sons, Café du Brazil, dCentre,

Main Square and Del Borgo, gave a total sum

of €950. Maintenance was done on all roofs

of this building and other works were also done

such as maintenance on windows and doors.

Other repairs and maintenance works were done on the lighting system, were a substantial number of reflectors were changed. Not only, a few days ago four units of shelving were done, and now are currently being polished by the workers employed with the Council through ETC.

A few weeks ago, the Council was informed that in the coming weeks, it will start the process to have the system of borrowing books computerized, where this system will help the librarian to know exactly the books which are out, which are read most by our customers, as well as knowing precisely about the books found in the library.

With the approval of the Head Librarian from the Central Library, we began the process to set aside the books which are deteriorated or are in a bad state. This process will surely help to get more space for new books.  The Birgu Local Council is constantly investing strongly in the Regional Library, which as everyone knows, is one of the most organized libraries in the Maltese Islands.

Over the past few years, the Birgu Local Council succeeded in finding and getting an agreement with the Ministry for Health, the Elderly and Community Care, to move the Governmental Health Clinic, currently found at Triq it-Torri ta’ San Ġwann, to be moved in the coming weeks to the lower (ground level) part of the Auberge d’Angleterre, where the Regional Library is already situated.

By virtue of this agreement, with the Health Department found in the Ministry for Health, the Birgu Local Council managed to redo the inner glazed door which was originally there, dividing the main entrance from the internal courtyard found in this historical building.

Today we can say that the Auberge d’Angleterre is serving two purposes, which are beneficial both for the educational and the health sector respectively, where the residents of this locality will have further facilities to accommodate their needs.
