On Saturday 6th March, the cleaning of the bastions surrounding the City of Birgu, from part of Post of Castille till the top part of Fort St. Angelo, began.
This is being done in connection with the visit of Pope Benedict XVI, to the Maltese Islands, where on Sunday 18th April, he will be passing through Birgu, on his way to Kalkara, where he then, will be leaving with a catamaran to go to Valletta Waterfront.
The Cleaning of the fortifications is being done by volunteers of the Group S.P.I.D.E.R and by the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Malta. Thanks to the work being done, this part of fortifications will be given a much better look, then it had in these past years, creating a historical potential that these bastions encircling the Maritime City of Birgu have.
