'Realism Revisited'

Artists from different, eclectic backgrounds will come together in a unique exhibition entitled 'Realism Revisited' promising to redefine realism with a taste of different cultures to the local village of Birgu. This exhibition shall feature works by Maria Froman ,Madeleine Gera, Matthew F.Cassar and Karl Froman amongst others.
 
Maria Froman, studied art in the United States. Having had over 25 solo exhibitions in Australia, England, Sweden and China. Maria loves the notion of personal freedom which shows in her works. She paints in a realistic style to effectively convey emotion to the viewer.

Karl Froman is a 26-year old Swede who has studied at the Florence Academy of Art and went on to study privately with the famous philosopher, businessman and author Chuyu Yue, having recently written a highly important philosophical work titled ‘Criticism of the Chinese people’s thinking’. Karl believes that a greater understanding of cultures and philosophy are of vital importance to an Artist. Mr. Froman is is currently involved in starting a Classical painting academy in Malta.
 
Madeleine Gera studied painting and drawing with Joseph Briffa (R.A.), Madeleine has a B.A. in Philosophy from the Faculty of Theology and was awarded a long term scholarship to study etching techniques at the Scuola International di Arte Grafica, il Bisonte in Florence Italy. She has taken part in several collective and personal exhibitions in Malta and overseas. Since 2002 she has been spending her time traveling between Florence, Italy and Malta, studying portrait painting.
 
Matthew F. Cassar (b. 1987, graduated in History of Art in 2008 and is presently reading for an M.A. in Creativity and Innovation at the University of Malta. He is also a former Assistant Curator at the Carmelite Priory Museum, Mdina and is presently working as an Art Animator and as an Art Tutor at St. James Cavallier, Valletta and St. Thomas Institute, Floriana respectively. As a self taught artist, Matthew focuses mainly on figurative paintings although the years spent studying art history have made their influence on his practical work in a way that the intial hyper-realistic representations are now moving towards more fresh and spontaneous work.


'Realism Revisited' is being organised in collaboration with Birgu Local Council. It will run from 5th June until 12th June,at Auberge de France in Birgu.
