Nhar it-Tnejn 28 ta’ Jannar, 2013, il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu ospita lill-Eċċellenza Tagħha s-Sinjura Refika Nihal Cevik, Ambaxxatriċi tat-Turkija f’Malta, għal żjara uffiċjali fil-bini l-ġdid tal-istess Kunsill ġewwa l-Berġa ta’ Franza.
 
L-Eċċellenza Tagħha żaret l-uffiċini tal-Kunsill u l-binja tal-Berġa ta’ Franza li għadha kemm ġiet irrestawrata.
 
 
Wara, s-Sindku tal-Birgu, s-Sur John Boxall laqa’ lill-Eċċellenza Tagħha s-Sinjura Refika Nihal Cevik ġewwa l-boardroom fejn huma ddiskutew ir-relazzjonijiet ġodda li qed jiżviluppaw bejn il-Belt Marittima tal-Birgu u diversi bliet ġewwa t-Turkija, speċjalment il-Belt ta’ Birgi u l-Provinċja ta’ Odemis. Is-Sindku semma’ il-bosta diskussjonijiet li huwa flimkien mad-delegazzjoni tal-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu kellu mas-Sindku ta’ Birgi, s-Sur Cumher Sener u l-Gvernatur tal-Provinċja ta’ Odemis, s-Sur Abdullah Dolek, li huma nteressati li jibnu relazzjoni mal-Belt tal-Birgu, il-Kapitali Marittima Maltija, u l-Gżejjer Maltin.
 
Is-Sindku, s-Sur John Boxall, spjega l-proġett il-ġdid li ser jidħlu għalih il-Birgu u l-Provinċja ta’ Odemis. Fuq insisistenza tas-Sur Abdullah Dolek, iż-żewġ partijiet qablu li sitt żgħażagħ mill-Birgu ta’ bejn il-15 u s-17-il sena jmorru jirrapreżentaw lill-Kunsill ġewwa l-Belt ta’ Birgi u l-Provinċja ta’ Odemis, fejn wara l-Birgu bl-għajnuna tal-Ambaxxata Torka jospitaw sitt żgħażagħ tal-istess eta mill-Belt ta’ Birgi.
 
L-Eċċellenza Tagħha faħħret ix-xogħol u l-inizjattiva li qed jieħu l-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu u l-mod kif qed jaħdem sabiex jilħaq bliet minn barra l-Unjoni Ewropea. Hija żiedet tgħid li l-Ambaxxata Torka ser tibqa’ taħdem id f’id mal-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu għall-benefiċċju ta’ din il-Belt u tal-ibliet Torok.
 
 
 
Wara din il-laqgħa produttiva, s-Sur John Boxall, Sindku tal-Birgu, f’isem il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu ppreżenta kopja tal-ktieb ”Birgu – A Maritime City” lill-E.T s-Sinjura Refika Nihal Cevik, fejn hija wkoll iffirmat il-ktieb tal-viżitaturi tal-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu.

Official Visit by Her Excellency Ms. Refika Nihal Çevik, Ambassador of Turkey in Malta
 
On Monday 28th January, 2013, the Birgu Local Council hosted Her Excellency Ms. Refika Nihal Çevik, Ambassador of Turkey in Malta, for an official visit to the Birgu Local Council premises, newly situated in the  Auberge de France.
Her Excellency Ms. Refika Nihal Çevik, visited the offices of the Local Council and the newly refurbished premises of the Auberge de France.
 
 
Then, the Mayor Mr. John Boxall greeted H.E Ms. Refika Nihal Çevik, in the board room, where they discussed the new connections being developed between the Maritime City of Birgu and the different Cities in Turkey, particularly the City of Birgi and the Odemis Province. The Mayor Mr. John Boxall, mentioned the various discussions that he together with a delegation from the Local Council had with the Mayor of Birgi, Mr. Cumhur Sener and the Odemis Province Governor, Mr. Abdullah Dolek, who are particularly interested in connecting with the Maritime Capital of Malta, the City of Birgu and the Maltese Islands.
 
The Mayor, Mr. John Boxall, explained the new project that the City of Birgu will embark with the Odemis Province in Turkey,  on the insistence of Mr. Abdullah Dolek himself, Governor of the Odemis Province, where both parties agreed that six Maltese Youths from our city will be representing our Council, in the City of Birgi and the Odemis Province, where in return Birgu, will host together with the Turkish Embassy six students from the City of Birgi between the ages of 15 and 17 years.
 
Her Excellency Ms. Refika Nihal Çevik, praised the work being done by the Birgu Local Council and the way it is working on reaching out to other Cities found outside that the European Union. Ms Refika Nihal Çevik, added that the Turkish Embassy will continue working closely with the Birgu Local Council for the benefit of this Maltese Maritime Capital and the Turkish Cities .
 
 
After this fruitful discussion, the Mayor Mr. John Boxall, in the name of the Birgu Local Council presented a copy of the book “Birgu – A Maritime City”, to H.E Ms. Refika Nihal Çevik, were afterwards, she had the pleasure to officially sign the Birgu Local Council Visitors’ Book.
