Mayor - John Boxall

Mr. John Boxall was born in Vittoriosa on the 19th October, 1954. He has been married to Rita nee Grixti, who is also from Vittoriosa and they have one child, named Karl. He works at Maltacom plc (Wirenet) as a Senior Technical Officer.

In March 1994, he was elected as the first Mayor of Birgu and occupied this position till July 1995. He contested again the Local Council election in 1998 where he was re-elected mayor of Vittoriosa. In 2001, he re-contested the Local COuncil election in the name of the Malta Labour party and he was re-elected Mayor of Citta Vittoriosa then again, in 2004, he was re-elected as Mayor. In March 2007, Mr. John Boxall, contested the Local Council election in the name of the Malta Labour Party where again he was elected and consequently elected as Mayor for this legislation which will end at the the end of March 2010.

Mr. John Boxall is the Chairman of the Joint Committee of the Light Devolution of the South of Malta, which is made up of fourteen Councils. He is also the Financial Secretary of the Association of Maltese Historic Cities which consists of eleven Maltese Local Council, within the European Historical Cities.

He is also the Chairman of the financial sub-committee of the Council together with the Councillors. He represents the Council in the Cottonera Joint Committee, which is presided by the leader of the labour party, Dr. Alfred Sant. Mr. John Boxall is also one of the members in the working group that represents the cities around the Grand Harbour in the Urban Community Council. For the past six years and he is still presenting the Vittoriosa Council in the Cottonera Rehabilitation Committee as well as in the Walled Towns Friendship Circle around Europe.

In February 2006, Mr. John Boxall unanimously was elected Vice President of the AVEC association during the executive committee meeting from 32 delegates from 11 countries around Europe. During the AVEC general assembly held in Tours between the 15th and 18th March 2007, Mr. John Boxall unanimously was again reconfirmed as Vice President of this association.

Presently, Mr. John Boxall has under his responsibility in the Council, the infrastructural projects, public cleaning, street lightning, public workers and all the workers assigned with the Local Council, including the IPSL workers and the worker that is assigned from the Environmental Landscape Consortium with the Council on a permanent basis.

For the past three years he has been President of the Amateurs Football Club, Vittoriosa Lightnings.
