Lace Making Day in the Streets of Birgu
On the 4th of June, 2006, the Maltese Lace Making Club, in collaboration with the Birgu Local Council organized the Maltese Lace Making Day in the streets of the Collachio area in Vittoriosa. The Collachio area made the ideal setting for this event as it is the oldest part of Vittoriosa. Various bobbins lace workers revived the Collachio area. On that day, tourists visiting Vittoriosa had the rare opportunity to admire the women displaying lace making skills. The Lace Making is an old custom on our island. The lace is worked by Maltese techniques on a Maltese pillow, with Maltese bobbins in various traditional designs.
Whilst the participants were displaying their lace making skills, at the Auberge D'Angleterre, a lace exhibition was set up displaying different works made by the members of the lace making club.
