Bejn l-25 u 27 t'Ottubru,2013, il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu kien mistieden biex jattendi ghal ewwel konferenza bl-isem 'I Borghi Piu Belli del Mediterraneo'gewwa l-villagg zghir ta' Cisternino, Puglia, l-Italja. Il-Kunsill kien rappreżentat mis-Sindku, s-Sur John Boxall flimkien ma' impjegata mill-Kunsill, is-Sinjura Lara Mascena, responsabli minn dan il-progett.

Waqt din il-konferenza, is-Sindku tal-Birgu kien mistieden biex jaghmel preżentazzjoni tieghu quddiem numru sostanzjali ta' mistiedna distinti u delagati dwar l-istorja, il-wirt kulurali u patrimonju li l-Belt Kapitali Marritima ta' Malta, il-Birgu ghandha x'toffri. Ghal din il-konferenza kienu prezenti diversi delegazzjonijiet minn diversi villaggi u bliet differenti madwar il-bahar Mediterran fosthom; il-Kroazja, Albania, Slovenja, Montenegro, Turkija, Spanja, Israel, Serbja, Gordan, Palestina u kif ukoll l-Italja.
 
     Uhud mid-delegati u mistiedna distinti waqt il-konferenza.
 

Matul din il-konferenza tkellmu diversi mistiedna li ghandhom rwol importanti f'din l-assocjazzjoni, fosthom il-President ta' din l-Assocjazzjoni, is-Sur Fiorello Primi, fejn stqarr li din l-assocjazzjoni qed thares li l-ibliet u l-villaggi li jaghmlu parti mill-bahar Mediterran  jinghaqdu u jahdmu flimkien ghal ghan wiehed; dak li jkomplu jtejbu u jsebhu l-ibliet u l-villaggi taghhom rispettivament.Qal ukoll li din l-assoccjazzjoni qed tahdem biex tinvesti aktar flus biex tghin lil dawn il-villaggi u bliet sabiex ikomplu jsebbhu l-patrimonju li ghandhom x`joffru.
 
Matul din il-konferenza, id-delegazzjoni Maltija kellha anke l-opportunita li turi filmat fuq il-Birgu, fejn dan intghogob u gie apprezat hafna minn dawk prezenti u wrew interess kbir biex jahdmu mal-lokalita tal-Birgu fil-futur qarib.

Lejn l-ahhar ta’ diskors tieghu, is-Sindku tal-Birgu sahaq li huwa ferm u ferm importanti li l-villaggi u l-ibliet jinvestu fl-edukazzjoni, specjalment fil-generazzjoni futura – ‘‘Jekk verament kull Sindku li hawn prezenti jrid li l-villagg u l-belt tieghu jkun hafna isbah u ahjar milli huwa llum, bla dubju l-ewwel fuq l-agenda taghhom trid tkun l-edukazzjoni, ghax din hija l-unika garanzija ghal futur tal-bliet u villaggi li ahna nirraprezentaw illum.’ Ghal dan il-kumment, id-delegati u l-mistiedna prezenti aprezzaw dan il-kummnet u interess kbir tul id-diskor kollhu.

Matul il-jiem gewwa l-villagg ta' Cisternino, id-delegazzjoni Maltija kellha l-opportunita li zur diversi villaggi ohra fil-vicinanzi, liema villaggi ghandom wirt u kultura partikolori x'joffru.

Permezz ta' dawn l-okazzjonijiet, il-Kunsill tal-Birgu qiegħed dejjem ikabbar u jesponi l-għarfien fuq il-Belt storika u l-Belt Kapitali Marittima Maltija ma' pajjizi ohra madwar il-Mediterran.

First Conference of the Association ‘The Most Beautiful Cities of the Mediterranean Sea’ in the town of Cisternino, Puglia, Italy
 
From the 25th till the 27th October 2013, the Birgu Local Council was invited to attend the first conference that was entitled ‘I Borghi Più Belli del Mediterraneo’ that was held in the small comune of Cisternino in the region of Puglia, on the south-east Italy coast. The Council was represented by the Mayor, Mr John Boxall together with one of the Council’s clerks, Mrs Lara Mascena, as the project administrator.
 
During this conference, the Mayor of Birgu was invited to address the numerous audience and the honorable guests with his presentation on the history and the cultural heritage that the Maritime Capital City of Malta, Vittoriosa has to offer. Present for this conference were various delegations from different cities and villages that can be found in the Mediterranean Sea, naming Croatia, Albania, Slovenia, Montenegro, Turkey, Spain, Jordan, Palestine, Isreal, Serbia and of course, Italy.
 
 
Various guests, that have an important role in the association, where asked to deliver their speech, among which the President of the association, Mr Fiorello Primi where he stated that the association will look after the cities and villages of the Mediterranean Sea and that it will ensure that all of them will be working for the same goal; that is to continue improving the quality and the aesthetical value of the respective cities and villages. He also stated that the association is working hard to invest more money in order to financially support its cities and villages’ projects to improve and protect the cultural heritage that they can offer.
 
The Maltese delegation was also given the opportunity to show a clip on the city of Birgu, which was really appreciated from the audience. They were actually very interested in our locality for future reference.
 
 
At the end of his speech, the Mayor of Birgu also stressed that it is crucial that such cities and villages invest in the education sector, especially for the future generation – “If every Mayor present at this conference truly wants that his village or city to be better and more beautiful that it is today, without any doubt the first thing on his agenda must be education, since it is the only guarantee for the future of the cities and villages that we are presenting today.” The present delegates and guests showed their appreciation for these comments and where very interested throughout the entire speech.
 
At the end of the conference, the Birgu Local Council signed an agreement through which the city of Birgu, together with the three other cities has become a member of ‘The Most Beautiful Villages in the Mediterranean Sea’ association.
 
 
During these few days in Cisternino, the Maltese delegation had also the opportunity to visit some other nearby villages that have a rich history to share.
 
Thanks to such occasions, the Birgu Local Council is having an excellent opportunity to promote our historical and Maritime Capital city of Malta in other countries around the Mediterranean
