Is-Socjeta’ Storiko Kulturali tal-Belt Vittoriosa dejjem ippruvat tenfasizza l-importanza tal-Birgu fl-istorja ta’ Malta. Matul iz-zminijiet, il-Birgu kien is-sede tal-potenzi li hakmu fuq Malta billi kien il-belt marittima ta’ Malta. Pero’ l-akbar avenimneti ghall-Birgu zgur li kienet ir-rebha ta’ l-Assedju l-Kbir tal-1565, rebha li kienet krucjli ghall-futur ta’ Malta. Kien minn dakinhar li l-Birgu ssejjah Vittoriosa.
Biex tkompli tkattar l-interess dwar din il-Belt fost iz-zghazagh u studenti ta’ bejn 16 u 18-il sena, is-Socjeta’ qed tniedi kompettizzjoni ta’ stejjer qosra. Min jippartecipa huwa mitlub jikteb storja qasira li jkollha l-Birgu bhala sugett jew ambjent, li tizvolgi fi sfond kontemporanju jew storiku, u li tinvolvi karattri misthajla jew storici.
Il-kundizzjonijiet biex wiehed jiehu sehem huma:
- Tul tal-kitba 1,000 – 1,500 kelma
- L-istorja tista’ tinkiteb bil-Malti jew bl-Ingliz
- Tista’ tibghat iktar minn kitba wahda
- Nizzel ismek u kunjomok, indirizz, numru tat-telefon, isem ta’ l-iskola jew kullegg
- Data tal-gheluq: 30 ta’ April 2011

Short story on the historic City of Birgu Competition
The Historical & Cultural Society of the City of Birgu, always worked on emphasizing the importance of Birgu in Malta’s history.
Throughout the years, Birgu was the seat of powers that ruled over Malta, since it was the Maritime City of Malta. But, the biggest event for Birgu was definitely the victory of the Great Siege of 1565, a victory which was crucial for the future of Malta. From that day onwards, Birgu was entitled Vittoriosa.
To further enhance the interest towards this City amongst young people and students aged between 16 and 18 years, the Historical and Cultural Society – Vittoriosa, are launching a competition of short stories. Participants are asked to write a short story having Birgu or Birgu’s environment as its main subject, which takes place in contemporary, or historical era and involving imaginary or historical characters.
Conditions to participate:
- Write 1000-1500 words
- Short story can be written in English or Maltese.
- One can submit more than one entry.
- Include name, surname, age (between 16-18), address, telephone number, school/college attended.
- Closing date: 30th April, 2011
