‘Il-pajjiżi tal-Mediterran iridu jaħdmu aktar flimkien biex tinħoloq ‘Mediterranean brand’ għat-Turizmu’

Waqt konferenza tal-aħbarijiet fil-Berġa ta’ Franza fil-Birgu, il-Ministru għat-Turizmu Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis flimkien mall-Akkademja Mediterranja tal-Kultura, Turiżmu u Kummerċ (MACTT) u l-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu nedew Seminars dwar diversi attivitajiet kulturali u edukattivi li se jkunu miftuħin għal studenti min nazzjonijiet diversi, u għalhekk tippromwovi wkoll aktar turiżmu lejn xtutna.

‘Malta ġiet magħzula minħabba l-pożizzjoni strateġika tagħha fil-qalb tal-Mediterran, fejn grazzi għal din il-pożizzjoni kompettitiva se jkunu qed jinħolqu iktar opportunitajjiet ta’ kummerċ. Ta' min jgħid li dawn is-seminars ser ikunu l-ewwel tip tagħhom li ser jinżammu fil-gżejjer Maltin’ sostna il-Ministru għat-Turizmu Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis.

‘Il-Mediterran huwa globalment rikonoxxut bħala l-benniena taċ-ċivilizazzjoni. Sfortunatament, matul dawn l-aħħar ħamsin sena ir-regjun zviluppa li jressaq lejh turizmu fl-istagun tas-sajf, permezz tax-xemx, tal-baħar u r-ramel, milli ikkapitalizza fuq l-istorja millenarja taz-zona tal-Mediterran’ żied il-Ministru ghat-Turiżmu.

‘Huwa għalhekk li rridu nghatu mportanza kbira lil-pajjiżi tal-Mediterran’, żied Dr. Zammit Lewis ‘li filwaqt ghandhom jahdmu flimkien u jagħrfu r-rwol krucjali taghhom li t-turiżmu kulturali għandu jkollu il-preservazzjoni tad-diversità reġjonali kif ukoll l-iżvilupp ekonomiku sostenibbli tal-pajjiżi’.

Għal dawn l-aħħar snin, Malta kienet attiva ħafna fl-iżvilupp u l-promozzjoni tat-turiżmu kulturali tagħha. Fost ohrajn dan wassal biex Malta  tnaqqas id-dipendenza tagħha fuq it-turisti li jkollhom bagit baxx, li jfittxu b’mod specjali lil Malta bhala destinazzjoni ghal-bajjiet sbieħ tagħha. It-Turiżmu kulturali jgħin lil pajjizna  biex ngħelbu il-problema tal-istaġjonalità, saħansitra li ħafna operaturi tas-settur turistiku jibqaw joperaw madwar is-sena kollha. Dan ikompli jsaħħaħ il-profil ta’ Malta bħala destinazzjoni ghal-Turizmu kulturali, sostna Dr. Zammit Lewis.

Il-Ministru ghat-Turiżmu saħaq li destinazzjoni turistika tirnexxi  jekk is-setturi kulturali u dak turistiku jaħdmu mill-qrib ma xulxin, fi sħubija biex tigi żgurata esperjenza ta' kwalità. Hemm firxa wiesgża ta’ attrazzjonijiet kulturali li t-turisti jistgħu jgawdu, iżda ma dan irrid jiġi offrut wkoll akkomodazzjoni ta l-għola livell, attivitajiet għat-turisti fost l-oħrajn.

Il-Ministru Dr. Zammit Lewis irringrazja lil Kunsill tal-Birgu li ha l-inizjattiva fejn se jkun qed jiġbed lejh aktar turiżmu.  ‘Din hija opportunita għal Malta fejn studenti barranin jigu jitħarrgu f’Malta u b’hekk jikkontribwixxu għal ekonomija tal-pajjiz. Dan jorbot mal-impenn tal-Gvern beix ikompli jahdem biex izzid l-accesibilita’ ta’ Malta. Il-viżjoni prinċipali tal-Gvern hija biex inkomplu nżidu t-turisti f’pajjiżna matul is-sena kollha’ , temm jgħid Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis.

“The Mediterranean countries must work more together in order to create a ‘Mediterranean brand’ for tourism”

During this press conference at the Auberge de France, Minister for Toursim, Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis together with the Mediterranean Academy for Culture, Tourism and Trade (MACTT) and the Birgu Local Council launched Seminars about various cultural and educative activities that will be open for students from different nations, and thus to promote more tourism for Malta.

“Malta was chosen because of its strategic position in the heart of the Mediterranean, where thanks to this competitive position, more trading opportunities will be created. It must also be said that these seminars will be the first of this kind that will be held in the Maltese Islands” said the Minister for Tourism, Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis.

“The Mediterranean is globally known as the cradle of civilization. Unfortunately, during the last fifty years, this region has encouraged tourism during the summer season by promoting the sun, the sea and the sandy beaches instead of focusing on the rich millenarian history of the Mediterranean zone”, added the Minister for Tourism.

“This is why a huge importance must be given to the Mediterranean countries”, added Dr. Zammit Lewis, “which have to work together to create a better understanding of their crucial role, that cultural tourism must have regional diversity preservation while also a sustainable economical development of the country.

For the past of the past few years, Malta has been very active in the developing and promoting its cultural tourism. This way Malta has also reduced its dependence on low-budget tourist that specifically decide to travel to Malta because of its beautiful beaches. Cultural tourism therefore helps our country to solve the problem of seasonality, by giving the possibility to operators related with the tourism sector, to work all year round. This continues to strengthen the image of Malta as a great destination for cultural tourism”, said Dr Zammit Lewis.

The Minister for Tourism insisted that a tourist destination can be successful if the cultural and tourism sectors work hand in hand; a partnership that will assure a quality experience. Even if there is a vast selection of cultural attractions that tourists can enjoy, it is also important that a high class accomodation is offered and also other interesting actvities among others.

The Minister Dr. Zammit Lewis thanked the Birgu Local Council for taking this initiative that will surely help to attract more tourists. “This is an opportunity for Malta where foreign students will come to study in Malta, and will therefore contribute in the countries’ economy. This also encourages the Government to continue to work in order to increase the accessibility to Malta. The main target of the Governmen is in fact that of attracting more tourists towards Malta all year round.
