Is-Sur Anthony Gellel, magħruf aħjar bħala Anton, twieled il-Birgu fis-6 ta’ Diċembru 1957. Huwa miżżewweġ lil Maria Dolores, magħrufa bħala Doris nee Galea, li hija mill-Mosta. Huma għandhom 3 itfal, Maria, Matthew u Laurence li huwa miżżewwġ lil Natasha u flimkien għandhom tifel jismu Jake.
 
 
Anton Gellel wara li temm l-edukazzjoni post-sekondarja tiegħu mar jaħdem mad-Dipartiment tax-Xogħlijiet bħala tradesman fil-bini u wara ftit snin bħala impjegat mad-Dipartiment tal-Kultura u l-Arti bħala Organizzatur. Matul dawn is-snin, Anton kien jifforma parti mill-Kummissjoni tal-Karnival, tal-Kumitat tal-Eurosong u l-Kumitat tal-Festi Nazzjonali. Illum huwa jmexxi n-negozju tal-familja, Mfsud Garage Ltd u ilu Direttur tal-istess kumpanija mill-1994. Fl-2005,huwa estenda dan in-negozju u stabbilixxa ħanut tal-hardware.
Hu kien dejjem attiv u motivat f`attivitajiet soċjali. Fil-fatt huwa kien involut f`ħafna attivitajiet fil-Birfu, speċjalment f`attivitajiet organizzati mill-Banda San Lawrenz u mill-Kumitat tal-Festi Esterni ta’ San Lawrenz, fejn huwa kien jagħmel parti mill-kumitat fiż-żewġ organizzazzjonijiet. Minbarra dan, bħalissa huwa joffri għajnuna volontarja lill-parroċċa ta’ San Lawrenz.
Attivita’ importanti li Anton kien direttament involut mis-Sindku John Boxall, kienet meta f`April tal-2003 il-Kunsill iddeċieda li jaħtar u jonora lill-Prinċep u Gran Mastru tal-Ordni Sovrana ta’ San Gwann, Fra Andrew Bertie, bit-titlu tal-Ewwel Ċittadin tal-Belt tal-Birgu. Dakinhar Anton kien fost il-ħafna nies voluntiera li ngħatatilhom ir-responsabilta li jorganizzaw din l-attivita, l-ewwel waħda ta’ din ix-xorta fil-Birgu.
Anton kien ukoll fost il-voluntiera li għen lill-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu meta saret iċ-ċerimonja tal-kxif tal-Monument tal-Papa Ġwanni Pawli II fi Triq Pawlu Boffa f`għeluq il-ħmistax – il sena minn meta l-qdusija tiegħu il-Papa Ġwanni Pawlu II kien żar il-Gżejjer Mlatin għall-ewwel darba.
Is-Sur Anton Gellel kien wieħed fost dawk nominati wkoll għall-premju ‘Ġieh Jum il-Birgu’ fl-2003.
Fl-10 ta’ Marżu, 2012, huwa kkontesta għall-ewwel darba l-Elezzjonijiet tal-Kunsilli Lokali f’isem il-Partit Nazzjonalista, u kien elett bħala Kunsillier fil-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu.
 
 
 
 
 
Mr. Anthony Gellel, known as Anton, born in Vittoriosa on the 6th December, 1957. He is married to Maria Dolores, known as Doris nee Galea, who is from Mosta. They have 3 children, named Maria, Matthew and Laurence, the latter married to Natasha and together they have a son named Jake.
Anton Gellel has completed his post-secondary education and used to work with the public works department as a building tradesman and after some years employed with The Culture & The Arts Department as a Culture Organiser. During these years, Anton formed part of the Carnival Commission, Eurosong Committee and National Festivities committee. Today he owns a private company named Mifsud Garage Ltd. And has been the director of this family-run business since 1994. In addition of this, he also extended his business and established a hardware shop since 2005.
He was always active and motivated with social events. In fact he was involved in many social activities in Birgu, namely activities organised by the St Lawrence Band Club and the St Lawrence External Festivities Committee, where he formed part of the committee in both organisations. In addition of this, presently he offers voluntary aid to the parish of St Lawrence.
An important activity in which Anton was directly involved by the Mayor John Boxall, was when in April of 2003 the Birgu Local Council decided to appoint and honour the Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of St John, Fra Andrew Bertie, by the title of First Citizen of the City of Birgu. Mr Gellel was among the many volunteers who had the responsibility to organize this event, the first of this kind in Birgu.
Anton was also among the volunteers who helped the Birgu Local Council in the ceremony of the inauguration of the Monument of Pope John Paul II in Paul Boffa Street, to commemorate the 15th anniversary from when his holiness Pope John Paul II had visited the Maltese Islands for the first time.
Anton Gellel was also among those nominated for award of ‘Gieh Jum il-Birgu’ in 2003.
On 10th March, 2012, he contested the Local Council Elections for the fist time on behalf of the Nationalist Party, and was elected as a Councillor within the Birgu Local Council.
