Ecce Mater Tua, Ecce Filius Tuus - Good Friday Costume in Spain and Malta

Exhibition at the Inquisitor's Palace, Main Gate Street, Vittoriosa between the 1st March 2007 and the 15th April 2007

This exhibition aims at comparing and contrasting costume and ritual in Malta and Spain. The focus is primarily on dressed imagery paraded on Good Friday. Evidence suggests that this type of imagery was widespread in seventeenth and eighteenth century Malta. Most have been discarded or replaced with wood or papier-mache versions.

The exhibition includes a set of high quality photographs of Good Friday processions in Spain. Artefacts on display include an original dressed image loaned from Qrendi parish church and other full scale large processional statutes fom the national collection. Old photographs of Vittoriosa Good Friday processional statues are complimented by a DVD of the procession.

This exhibition is a must for all those interested in Good Friday statuary and traditions. It is also a learning experienxce for school children and all those interested in Spain's cultural heritage and its links with Malta. The exhibition is part of the visitor experience at the Inquisitor's Palace open all day from 9:00am. Last entry is at 4:30p.m.
