Nhar it-Tnejn 21 ta’ Jannar, 2013, wasal fostna Dr YoungHoon Kwaak, Korean, President tal-World Citizens Organisation WCO wara stedina li saritlu mill-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu.   Dr Kwaak kien iltaqa’ ma’ rappreżentanti tal-istess Kunsill waqt il-konferenza “7th Silk Road Mayors’ Forum” li kienet saret f’Gaziantep it-Turkija ftit tax-xhur ilu. Għal Dr Kwaak din kienet l-ewwel żjara tiegħu fil-Gżejjer Maltin, zjara qasira li għamel sabiex speċifikament iżur il-Belt Marittima Kapitali tal-Birgu.
  
 
Dakinhar stess tal-wasla tiegħu huwa ltaqa’ mas-Sindku tal-Birgu, s-Sur John Boxall, mal-Viċi Sindku u l-Kunsilliera, flimkien ma’ Dr Paul Bezzina, ġewwa l-Uffiċini Amministrattivi tal-istess Kunsill fil-Berġa ta’ Franza. Fil-bidu ta’ din il-laqgħa s-Sindku tal-Birgu rringrazzja lil Dr YoungHoon Kwaak talli għoġbu jilqa’ l-istedina tal-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu u tas-sapport li ta lill-istess Kunsill sabiex jissieħeb bħala membru fi ħdan il-World Citizens Organization u hu l-uniku Kunsill fil-Gżejjer Maltin li huwa msieħeb f’din l-organizzazzjoni dinjija.
 
Waqt din il-laqgħa ġew diskussi bosta ideat li l-Kunsill qed jaħdem fuqhom bi prijorita sabiex il-Belt Kapitali Marittima tisfrutta l-elementi storiċi u kulturali tagħha u tagħmel lil din il-belt storika destinazzjoni turistika u kif jistgħu jinħolqu mpjiegi relatati ma’ dan is-settur fil-lokalita. Min-naħa tiegħu Dr Kwaak wera l-apprezzament tiegħu għal din l-istedina u esprima l-opinjoni pożittiva tiegħu dwar il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu fejn meta f’Gaziantep fit-Turkija d-delegazzjoni tal-Birgu bil-preżentazzjoni tagħhom ħalliet impressjoni ferm tajba ma kull delegat li kien preżenti għal din il-konferenza. Fost il-ħafna affarijiet li ġew diskussi f’din il-laqgħa, Dr Kwaak wera ix-xewqa li fil-Birgu din l-organizzazzjoni dinjija ikollha wieħed mill-uffiċini tagħha.
 
Wara din il-laqgħa saru bdil ta' rigali, fejn is-Sindku tal-Birgu,s-Sur John Boxal preżenta il-kotba tal-''Birgu Maritime City'' lill-President Dr.YoungHoon Kwaak, bil-preżenza tal-Viċi-Sindku u l-Kunsilliera.
 
After the meeting, there was the exchange of gifts, where the Mayor of Birgu, Mr.John Boxall present the books ''Birgu Maritime City'' to the President Dr.YoungHoon Kwaak, with the presence of the Vice-Mayor and the Councillors.
 
L-għada t-Tlieta 22 ta’ Jannar, Dr Kwaak irritorna ġewwa l-Birgu fejn akkumpanjat mill-Kunsillier, is-Sur Lawrence Attard, b’kollaborazzjoni mal-Heritage Malta, huwa kellu l-opportunita jżur il-Palazz tal-Inkwiżitur u l-Muzew Marittimu. Huwa żar ukoll il-Knisja Kolleġjata ta’ San Lawrenz kif ukoll fuq rikjesta tiegħu stess żar dar residenzjali imma ta’ valur storiku kbir fil-Birgu. Matul din l-għodwa huwa ltaqa’ wkoll mas-Sur Adrian Caruana, rappreżentant tal-“Malta Buddhist Society” ġewwa l-Berġa ta’ Franza. Waqt din il-laqgħa huma tkellmu dwar il-“Lumbini World Peace City Master Plan”.
 
Wara nofsinhar Dr YoungHoon Kwaak ittieħed ġewwa l-Belt tal-Imdina fejn akkumpanjat mill-Kunsillier, s-Sur Lawrence Attard u s-Sinjura Moira Azzopardi, impjegata tal-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu responsabbli minn din il-viżita ta’ Dr YoungHoon Kwaak, ġie mdawwar mat-toroq ta’ din il-belt storika. B’kollaborazzjoni mas-Sindku tal-Imdina, s-Sur Peter Sant Manduca, din iż-żjara ġiet gwidata mis-Segretarju Eżekuttiv tal-istess Kunsill, is-Sur Paul Spiteri.

Dr. Kwaak akkumpanjat mil-Kunsillier Lawrence Attard flimkien mas-Segretarju Ezekuttiv tal-Belt ta' L-Imdina,  f'din il-Belt fejn zaru diversi postijiet ta' interess storiku

Dr. Kwaak accompanied by Councillor Lawrence Attard and the Executive Secretary of the Mdina Local Council, where they visited various historical places in this City.
 
Aktar tard filgħaxija, Dr Kwaak kellu laqgħa formali mal-Konslu Ġenerali Onorarju għall-Korea, s-Sur John Sullivan ġewwa l-Berġa ta’ Franza. Għal din il-laqgħa kien hemm ukoll preżenti s-Sindku tal-Birgu, s-Sur John Boxall u l-Kunsillier, is-Sur Lawrence Attard.
 
Matul din il-lejla Dr Kwaak kellu wkoll l-opportunita jiltaqa’ ma’ grupp ta’ żgħażagħ mill-Birgu li ftit tal-ġimgħat oħra ser imorru barra minn xtutna sabiex jipparteċipaw fi proġett iffinanzjat mill-Unjoni Ewropea taħt il-programm Youth in Action. Dawn iż-żgħażagħ kienu qegħdin jattendu laqgħa ġewwa l-Berġa ta’ Franza, laqgħa li saret apposta għalihom mill-Viċi Sindku, s-Sur Trevor Mizzi, responsabbli mis-settur taż-żgħażagħ. 
 
L-għada l-Erbgħa 23 ta’ Jannar, kmieni filgħodu, Dr YoungHoon Kwaak ħalla pajjiżna sabiex ikompli l-vjaġġ tiegħu lejn Vjenna fejn hemmhekk kellu jiltaqa’ ma’ Ban Ki-moon, Segretarju Ġenerali tan-Nazzjonijiet Uniti.

Official Visit by Dr Younghoon Kwaak, President of the World Citizens Organisation, WCO

On Monday 21 January, 2013, the President of the World Citizens Organisation (WCO) Dr Younghoon Kwaak, Korean, upon an invitation from the Birgu Local Council, was greeted by the members of the Council. Dr Kwaak had met representatives of the Council during the conference "7th Silk Road Mayors Forum" held in Gaziantep Turkey a few months ago. For Dr Kwaak, this was his first visit to the Maltese Islands, where he made such a brief visit to specifically visit the Maritime Capital City of Birgu.
 
Upon his arrival Dr. Kwaak was greeted by the Mayor of Birgu, Mr. John Boxall, the Vice Mayor and Councilors, together with Dr Paul Bezzina, at the Council Administrative Offices in the Auberge de France. At the beginning of the meeting the Mayor of Birgu thanked Dr Younghoon Kwaak for accepting the Council’s invitation as well as for the support being given to the Council for it to become a member within the World Citizens Organization. The Birgu Local Council is the only Council on the Maltese Islands which forms part of this world organization.
 
 
 
During the meeting several ideas were discussed, including how the Council is prioritizing how it can exploit the historical and cultural elements of this Maritime Capital to make this historic city a touristic destination and how one can create employment within this sector in the locality. On the other hand, Dr. Kwaak showed his appreciation for the invitation and expressed his positive opinion on the Birgu Local Council after the presentation given by the delegation of Birgu in Gaziantep, Turkey, which left a very good impression on the delegates present at this conference. Amongst the items discussed, Dr. Kwaak  also informed the Local Council, that it would be a great opportunity if this global organization, would have one of its offices situatied in Vittoriosa.
 
 
The following day, on the Tuesday 22nd January, Dr Kwaak returned  to the City of Birgu, where, whilst being accompanied by Councillor Mr. Lawrence Attard, in collaboration with Heritage Malta he had the opportunity to visit the Palace of the Inquisitor and the Maritime Museum. He also visited the Collegiate Church of St Lawrence as well as upon his request, an old dwelling with extreme historical value in the City of Birgu. On this day, at the Auberge de France, he also met  Mr. Adrian Caruana, representative of the "Malta Buddhist Society" where they discussed the "Lumbini World Peace City Master Plan".
 
In the afternoon Dr. Younghoon Kwaak was then taken to the City of Mdina, where accompanied by the Councillor, Mr. Lawrence Attard and Ms Moira Azzopardi, employee of the Birgu Local Council responsible for this visit toured the streets of this historic city. In collaboration with the Mayor of Mdina, Mr. Peter Sant Manduca, this visit was guided by the same Council Executive Secretary, Mr Paul Spiteri.
 
Later that the evening, Dr Kwaak had also a meeting with the Honorary Consul General to Korea, Mr. John Sullivan at the Auberge de France. For this meeting the Mayor of Birgu, Mr. John Boxall and Councillor, Mr Lawrence Attard., were also present
 
Dr. Kwaak had also the opportunity to meet with a group of youths from Vittoriosa, who, in a couple of weeks will go abroad to participate in a project funded by the European Union under the Youth in Action program . These youths were at the Auberge de France, as they were attending a meeting organized specifically by the Deputy Mayor Mr. Trevor Mizzi,  councilor responsible for the youth sector.
 
 
 
On Wednesday 23 January, early morning, Dr Younghoon Kwaak left our country to continue his journey to Vienna where he then met with Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary General.
