Welcome

Welcome speech from the Mayor of Birgu, Mr.John Boxall

Sinjuri,

Għan-nom tal-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu, ġentilment nixtieq nilqagħkom fil-website uffiċjali tal-Belt Marittima, l-Belt tal-Birgu.  Inizjattiva oħra li ħa l-Kunsill Lokali tal-Birgu biex jirrivitalizza u jimmodernizza s-sit uffiċjali tiegħu.

Jien, flimkien ma’ sħabi l-Kunsilliera ninsabu mpenjati biex nutilizzaw l-aħħar teknoloġija, biex noħolqu riżorsi li bihom jibbenefikaw ir-residenti u n-nies li jżuru l-Belt Vittoriosa, u l-internet huwa sors ewlieni ta’ informazzjoni li jista’ jgħin biex dan l-għan jinkiseb.

Din il-Belt antika u medjevali, żmien ilu kienet ġiet assedjata minn setgħat qawwija kif ukoll assedju ieħor fit-Tieni Gwerra Dinjija, fejn din il-Belt ġiet imġarrfa.  Bħal fil-mitoloġija Punika, permezz tar-resistenza taċ-ċittadini tagħha, l-Belt tal-Birgu qamet u saret Belt ta’ arti u kultura.

Aħna nemmnu li s-sit elettroniku tagħna huwa għodda importanti biex juri lid-dinja l-aspett storiku, arkitettoniku, kulturali u dak soċjali ta’ din il-Belt, bażikament dak kollhu li toffri l-Belt tal-Birgu.

Grazzi talli qed iżżuru www.birgu.gov.mt

John Boxall
Sindku

On behalf of the Birgu Local Council, I would like to welcome you to the official website of Malta’s oldest Maritime Capital, the City of Birgu. Yet another initiative which the Local Council embarked upon to re-vitalise and modernize its official website.

My fellow councellors and myself, are equally dedicated to utilizing the latest technology to create helpful resources that benefit the residents and visitors of Citta Vittoriosa; and the internet is a rapid worldwide information service to achieve these aims.

This ancient, medieval City, long ago battered and besieged by the might of opposing powers suffered another bitter siege in World War II, which laid it once again in ruins. Like the mythological phoenix , through the resilience of its citizens, Birgu rose from its ashes to emerge defiantly as a City of art and culture.

We believe that our website is another important tool to advertise to the world the historical, architectural, cultural and social aspects of the City of Birgu - basically what the City of Birgu is capable to offer.

Thank you for visiting www.birgu.gov.mt

John Boxall
Mayor
